Book 1 (Complete): Phin York and the Giants of Wintercoombe
A 12,000-word fantasy-adventure chapter book about bravery, friendship, and staying true to yourself, where Pippi Longstocking meets The Chronicles of Narnia.
Nine-year-old Phin would do anything to prove to herself and her faraway parents that she's doing just fine running an entire castle all on her own. She may be a princess, but she has no lords or squires, wears a crooked crown atop a nest of knots, and lives on nothing but carrot stew. But after her cousin, Wigbert Worm-in-the-Eye, steals her crown and vanishes into a forbidden secret passageway, Phin must follow him in to reclaim what’s hers.
She and best friend Tristan enter the passageway and fall into the Kingdom of Wintercoombe, where human-sized snowflakes fall, silver dragons freeze everything in sight, and legendary Giants, Corweena the Curious and Beli the Bountiful, rule. Phin convinces the Giants to help with her mission as the friends work through their fears of the unknown, their family expectations, and what friendship means as Phin tries to uphold promises made.
Series: The Moorland Manuscripts
The series follows best friends Phin and Tristan as they time-travel across mysterious worlds and become entangled in solving centuries-long mysteries. Through the books, Phin transforms into a symbol of hope for other girls in the moorlands, embodying courage and resilience in the face of everyone who says they can’t run their own castles. The series emphasizes curiosity, bravery, and teamwork, and draws inspiration from the fantastical lore of Celtic, Welsh, and Northern English history.
